MIR-24 / Soyuz TM-26

During the EVA, Anatoli worked much lonre that under the buckled radiator panels there is no deformation of the pressure hull of Spekter. After moving to the area of the broken solar array motor drive foundation, we found that it was significantly out of alinement, be substantial damage under the motor, and therefore the pressure hull. More EVA will be required to investigate futher this area. Anatoli was successfull in aligning the working arrays properly to the sun, so that Mir can not [change] attitude with out effecting the onorbit resource of the Soyuz spacecraft, because of higher than desirable temperatures of the H2O2 fuel in the descent module. Personally, this EVA was very rewarding for me, and was diffy first spacewalk on Shuttle. The suit is well suited to working on Mir, and allowed me to use three attachment tethers for translation, the whole time. On shuttle, I was mostly translated around on the end of the arm - this ving Anatoli around on the end of the Strela 20m crane. I will remember the views of the Earth and Milky Way, and station, in the light of a sickle moon, for ever. These night views were possible, because the only external liounted [light mounted] on our helmets, and which I could turn off when appropriate. I hope more people in the future, and many more supporters of human space flight, will one day get the chance to have such experiences as I have been lucky to CMD(B/H/J/K/KM/L/M/R/S/SR/V/?)> |
| 3 | Stat : PR Posted : 97/08/29 09:27 To : ALL From : R0MIR @ BBS : BID : Subject: Mir status We have been steadily working to get the Elektron in Kvant working - and now it is, producing O2. Now Anatoli is working in Kvant 2 to see if we can get another Elektron to work as a hot backup. More work will be done connecting up cables to enable power to Priroda, after the EVA. Krictal has been powered for 2 days now, and is much warmer. The Greenhouse plants are producing 5cm. long siliques, and the airlock is ready for our suit preparations, for Anatoli and I to do EVA on 5th September, roughly. We will inspect damage site on Spektr, and install handrails and a truss, to enable future access and repair. In addition, we will install a valve on the base block, to enable the installation of a backup CO2 scrubbing system, known as Vozduk. Mike. CMD(B/H/J/K/KM/L/M/R/S/SR/V/?)> |
| 2 | Stat : PR Posted : 97/08/23 13:54 To : ALL From : R0MIR @ BBS : BID : Subject: Mir Status Well, looks like Anatoli and Pavel really set the big hatch plug, with 80 cables coming out of it, just fine in the hatch way of Spekter. We are now getting the station back into shape, trying to reconnect cables disconnected before the eva. First attempts to check the new cables to spekter will be Monday. Thanks for all your good wishes. Mike. CMD(B/H/J/K/KM/L/M/R/S/SR/V/?)> |
| 1 | Stat : PR Posted : 97/08/19 23:04 To : ALL From : R0MIR @ BBS : BID : Subject: Mir status Tnc reset again. After Anatoli successfully docked the progress yesterday, manually, we replaced the bad computer that controls the GNC of the station, and reestablished attitude control and solar pointing today. Anatoli and Pavel have completed their EVA training run in the suits, and we are now working to have everything ready for the Power Connect EVA to take place in the node, on Friday. Mike. Rodnika.
